He spent 11 seasons in the Boston net and was part of the Bruins Stanley Cup championship teams in 1970 and 1972. In 1963-64 he played every minute of all 70 games, the last NHL goaltender to appear in every game of a season. He recorded four assists in 38 games during the 1971-72 season. He was acquired by St. Louis in a trade with Toronto. Through the 1974-75 season his NHL record stood at 500 games played, 1555 goals against, 30 shutouts and a 3.21 average.
