He played junior hockey with the Niagara Falls Flyers and won the Memorial Cup with them in 1965. He made his NHL debut with Boston in December 1965, turned professional with the Hershey Bears in 1968, and won a Calder Cup there in 1969.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eRecalled to Boston partway through 1969-70, Marcotte landed on the checking line with Derek Sanderson and Ed Westfall and played 14 games in the postseason run that ended Boston's 29-year title drought, winning his first Stanley Cup as a rookie. He won a second Cup in 1972 and reached the Final three more times. He spent his entire 15-season NHL career with the Bruins and was regarded as one of the best defensive forwards of his era, finishing in the top three in Selke Trophy voting in both 1977-78 and 1978-79.
