He played junior hockey for the Thetford Mines Canadiens and the Montreal Junior Canadiens, winning Memorial Cups with Montreal in 1969 and 1970. The Vancouver Canucks selected him 39th overall in the third round of the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eLemieux played three seasons in Vancouver, with his best coming in 1972-73 when he put up 17 goals and 52 points in 78 games. Kansas City claimed him in the 1974 NHL Expansion Draft, and he was part of the first Scouts team, playing in the franchise's opening game on October 9, 1974 at Toronto and posting 10 goals and 30 points that season. Two games into 1975-76 the Scouts traded him to Atlanta along with a 1977 second-round pick for Buster Harvey. He was assigned to the Nova Scotia Voyageurs, where he led the AHL playoffs with eight goals and won the Calder Cup in 1976.
