He was a fixture on the blue line for the Broad Street Bullies teams that won back to back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975, and his plus-16 in the 1975 playoffs tied Jimmy Watson for the NHL lead among defensemen. He was traded to Pittsburgh in March 1976 and retired the following season after a shoulder injury, finishing with 11 NHL seasons. Van Impe is a member of the Flyers Hall of Fame.
