He quarterbacked Houston to the first two AFL championships in 1960 and 1961 and was named AFL Player of the Year in 1961. In 1970, at 43, he won or tied five straight games for the Raiders with late field goals and touchdown passes and was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player.
