His 38 touchdown passes in 1977 are noted on the back of this card as the second highest single season total in college football at the time. Tampa Bay took him 17th overall in the first round of the 1978 draft, making him the first Black quarterback selected in the opening round of an NFL draft.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eHe started ten games as a rookie, one of them with a broken jaw wired shut, and was a unanimous pick for the NFL All-Rookie team. The following season the Buccaneers went from 5-11 to 10-6, won the first division title in franchise history, and won their first playoff game over Philadelphia before reaching the NFC Championship Game. Williams took Tampa Bay to the playoffs three times in five seasons.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eAfter a contract dispute he left for the USFL, then signed with Washington in 1986 and took over as the starter late in the 1987 season. On January 31, 1988 he became the first Black quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl, beating Denver 42-10 in Super Bowl XXII. He threw for 340 yards and four touchdown passes, all four in the second quarter, and was named the game's MVP.
