Pittsburgh took him in the 16th round of the 1968 draft. He played ten games as a rookie and was then drafted a second time that year, by the Army. He served in Vietnam with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade as a Specialist 4 and was wounded in combat in 1969, taking shrapnel and gunfire to his right leg and foot. He came home with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star and was told he would have trouble walking normally again. The back of this card shows the gap, with 1969 and 1970 listed as military service and did not play.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eBleier spent two years rehabbing and fighting his way back onto the roster, and by 1974 he was in the starting lineup. In 1976 he ran for 1,036 yards, and he and Franco Harris became the second pair of teammates in NFL history to each rush for 1,000 yards in the same season. He won four Super Bowls with Pittsburgh in IX, X, XIII and XIV. In Super Bowl XIII he caught the Terry Bradshaw touchdown pass that put the Steelers ahead for good and later recovered the Dallas onside kick that ended it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eHe finished with 3,865 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns along with 136 catches for 1,294 yards.
