In his first professional game, the Vikings' first game as an expansion franchise, he came off the bench and threw four touchdown passes in a 37-13 upset of the Bears. He was named NFL Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 1975, made nine Pro Bowls, and led Minnesota to three Super Bowl appearances. He retired holding the league's career records for pass attempts with 6,467, completions with 3,686, passing yards with 47,003 and touchdown passes with 342, marks that stood for 17 years. He added 3,674 rushing yards and 32 rushing touchdowns, and he rushed for a touchdown in 15 different seasons, a record among quarterbacks. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986, the College Football Hall of Fame in 1987, and the Vikings Ring of Honor in 1998.
