On April 8, 1974 he hit his 715th home run off Al Downing of the Dodgers to pass Babe Ruth, and he finished with 755. He still holds the career records for runs batted in with 2,297 and total bases with 6,856, was NL MVP in 1957, won a World Series with Milwaukee that same year, and was selected to 25 All-Star Games.
