1911 T205 Gold Border — Miller Huggins (HOF) — Piedmont Back — SGC 4 VG/EX SGC Cert #3332018

Iconic pre-war tobacco card of a Hall of Famer! This is Miller Huggins from the legendary 1911 T205 Gold Border set, with the classic Piedmont Cigarettes back ("Base Ball Series, 400 Designs" — Factory No. 25, 2nd Dist. VA). The T205 set is one of the most beloved issues of the tobacco era, famous for its striking gold-bordered player portraits — and notoriously condition-sensitive, as those gold borders chip and show every flaw. An SGC 4 VG/EX with strong color and eye appeal is a very solid grade for this issue.

Card Details:

  • Set: 1911 T205 Gold Border
  • Player: Miller Huggins, St. Louis Cardinals ("of the St. Louis Nationals")
  • Back: Piedmont Cigarettes
  • Grade: SGC 4 VG/EX
  • Cert Number: 3332018 (verifiable on SGC's website)

Huggins was the Cardinals' scrappy second baseman and leadoff man when this card was issued — the back praises his batting eye, noting he led the National League with 116 walks in 1910. But he's immortalized for what came later: as manager of the New York Yankees dynasty, Huggins skippered Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and the fabled Murderers' Row, winning six American League pennants and three World Series titles in the 1920s. He was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964, and the Yankees honored him with the very first monument in what became Monument Park.

Condition: Professionally graded SGC 4 VG/EX and encapsulated in SGC's tamper-evident black-core holder, which showcases the gold borders beautifully. Please review all photos carefully — the images are of the exact card you will receive.

A cornerstone pre-war Hall of Famer at a fraction of the cost of the set's biggest names — perfect for T205 set builders, HOF collectors, Cardinals and Yankees fans alike. Over 110 years old and displays fantastic!
