DESCRIPTION

1939 Gum Inc. World In Arms #2 "U.S. High Speed Tank" (United States High-speed Tank) from the Iron Cavalry subset, graded SGC 20 FAIR 1.5. Cert number 1363767-215, which can be independently verified.

This card comes from the 1939 World In Arms set issued by Gum, Inc. of Philadelphia, the same company behind the famous Horrors of War set and the future Bowman brand. Released on the eve of World War II, the 120-card set depicted the era's military hardware across subsets of Airplanes, Ships, Iron Cavalry, Field Artillery, Fortifications, and Miscellaneous World Arms, with each back asking "Can America Maintain Peace with The World In Arms?"

This card features action-packed artwork of an American light tank splashing through a river crossing with guns blazing. The back describes Uncle Sam's 19,000-pound "mystery" tank, capable of more than 50 miles per hour on flat ground, armed with .50 and .30 caliber machine guns in hand-operated turrets, and even boasting of a thousand-mile trial run at a 30 mph average. These fast pre-war light tanks were the developmental ancestors of the M2 and M3 Stuart light tanks that served throughout WWII. A fun piece for military vehicle and armor collectors.

Graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC, an honest, well-circulated example of an 85+ year old pre-war card showing heavy corner, edge, and surface wear with creasing, while the front artwork still presents well in the holder. A budget-friendly way to add this pre-war set to your collection. Please review the photos closely, as they are part of the description.
