DESCRIPTION

1939 Gum Inc. World In Arms #4 "U.S. .30 Caliber" (United States .30-Caliber Heavy Machine Gun) from the Field Artillery subset, graded SGC 30 GOOD 2. Cert number 1363767-197, which can be independently verified.

This card comes from the 1939 World In Arms set issued by Gum, Inc. of Philadelphia, the same company behind the famous Horrors of War set and the future Bowman brand. Released on the eve of World War II, the 120-card set depicted the era's military hardware across subsets of Airplanes, Ships, Iron Cavalry, Field Artillery, Fortifications, and Miscellaneous World Arms, with each back asking "Can America Maintain Peace with The World In Arms?"

This card features detailed artwork of an American machine gun crew in WWI-style helmets manning a water-cooled Browning in a rocky desert position. The back describes the .30-caliber Browning heavy machine gun, standard equipment for U.S. Army machine gun units, with its two-mile range, water-cooling box, and versatility against aircraft and tanks on a raised tripod. The Browning depicted, the M1917, would serve American forces through WWII and Korea, making this a great pre-war card for military hardware and small arms collectors.

Graded GOOD 2 by SGC, consistent with a well-circulated pre-war card that is over 85 years old, showing rounded corners, edge and surface wear, and creasing, with the front artwork still displaying well. Please review the photos closely, as they are part of the description.
