DESCRIPTION

1961 Fleer #10 Milt Plum, Cleveland Browns. Graded PSA 8 NM-MT. Certification number 15770727. The photos show the exact card and holder you will receive, so please review them closely for condition and centering.

The card lists Plum as a quarterback, 6'2", 205 pounds, hometown Westville, New Jersey, college Penn State, age 26. The back notes that he had been Cleveland's number one quarterback since 1958 and that he had earned a place on the Pro Bowl squad.

Milton Ross Plum was born January 20, 1935 in Westville, New Jersey and played at Woodbury High School. At Penn State he handled quarterback, defensive back, punter and placekicker, intercepting seven passes as a defensive back in his senior year. In a 1955 win over Syracuse he threw a touchdown, scored the tying touchdown, kicked the winning extra point, made an interception, and tackled Syracuse star Jim Brown in the open field to prevent a score. Brown would become his teammate two years later.

The Browns used their first-round pick in the 1957 NFL Draft on Jim Brown and took Plum in the second round, 17th overall. He took over the starting job in 1958 and ran an offense built around Brown and Bobby Mitchell. His passer rating of 110.4 in 1960 stood as the best single-season mark in NFL history until Joe Montana broke it in 1989, and his 89.9 rating across five Cleveland seasons ranks first among Browns quarterbacks with at least 750 attempts. He led the league in completion percentage three straight years from 1959 through 1961, was a Pro Bowl selection in 1960 and 1961, and was a second-team All-Pro in 1960.

Cleveland traded Plum to Detroit in March 1962 in a six-player deal. He played for the Lions through 1967, then the Los Angeles Rams in 1968 and the New York Giants in 1969, finishing with 17,536 passing yards, 122 touchdowns and 531 rushing yards.
