DESCRIPTION

1975 O-Pee-Chee #12 Ivan Boldirev, Chicago Black Hawks. Graded PSA 8 NM-MT. Certification number 16726543. The card is from the 1975-76 O-Pee-Chee hockey set. The photos show the exact card and holder you will receive, so please review them closely for condition and centering.

The back lists him as a center, born August 15, 1949 in Zrenjanin, Yugoslavia, home Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, 6'0" and 190 pounds, acquired in a trade with California, seven years pro. It credits him as Chicago's second leading scorer the previous season and notes he was a first-round amateur selection by Boston in 1969. His NHL totals through 1974-75 are listed as 284 games, 76 goals, 122 assists, 198 points and 194 penalty minutes.

Ivan Boldirev was born in Zrenjanin, in what was then Yugoslavia and is now Serbia, and was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Boston took him 11th overall in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft after a strong junior run with the Oshawa Generals. He was called up as a spare during Boston's 1970 playoff run and did not appear in a game, but his name was engraved on the Stanley Cup anyway, making him the only forward to have that happen before playing an NHL game. He made his NHL debut on November 26, 1970, becoming the first European-born draft pick to play in the league.

Boston traded him to California in November 1971, and the Golden Seals gave him the ice time to establish himself. Chicago acquired him in May 1974, and the five seasons that followed were the best of his career. He posted 24 goals and 67 points in 1974-75, the season this card covers, topped 60 points in each of his Chicago years, led the club in goals, assists and points in both 1976-77 and 1977-78, and played in the 1978 All-Star Game.

He was moved to Atlanta in a nine-player blockbuster in March 1979, then on to Vancouver, where he reached the Stanley Cup Final in 1982. A trade to Detroit produced a career year in 1983-84 with 35 goals and 83 points alongside rookie Steve Yzerman. He retired after 1984-85 with 361 goals, 505 assists and 866 points in 1,052 NHL games.
