DESCRIPTION

1975 O-Pee-Chee #8 Curt Bennett, Atlanta Flames. Graded PSA 8 NM-MT. Certification number 12366716. The card is from the 1975-76 O-Pee-Chee hockey set. The photos show the exact card and holder you will receive, so please review them closely for condition and centering.

The back lists him as a center, born March 27, 1948 in Regina, Saskatchewan, home Atlanta, Georgia, 6'3" and 195 pounds, acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers, six years pro. It notes that he had played every position except goal to that point in his NHL career. His NHL totals through 1974-75 are listed as 254 games, 71 goals, 80 assists, 151 points and 124 penalty minutes.

Curt Alexander Bennett was born in Regina and moved to Rhode Island at three months old when his father, NHL goaltender Harvey Bennett Sr., was playing for the Providence Reds. Two of his brothers, Harvey Jr. and Bill, also played professionally. He starred at Cranston East High School and then at Brown University, where he played defense, was a first-team NCAA All-American in 1970, captained the tennis team, graduated with a degree in Russian Studies and was nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship. He still holds Brown records for career goals, assists and points by a defenseman.

St. Louis took Bennett 16th overall in the 1968 NHL Amateur Draft. He played 35 games over two seasons with the Blues before a trade to the Rangers and then, in November 1972, to Atlanta. The Flames years were his best: he topped 30 goals twice, with 31 in 1974-75 and 34 in 1975-76, led the team in scoring both years, and represented Atlanta in the 1975 and 1976 All-Star Games. He is credited as the first American-developed player to score 30 goals in an NHL season.

Bennett represented the United States at the 1976 Canada Cup and the 1978 and 1979 World Championships. He returned to St. Louis late in his career, closed out with Atlanta in 1979-80, and finished with 152 goals, 182 assists and 334 points in 580 NHL games. He then spent two seasons as a player-coach in Nikko, Japan with Furukawa Denko alongside his brother Harvey Jr. He was married to Susan Bennett, who later provided the original voice of Apple's Siri.
