Description
This scarce 1839 Large Cent, authenticated and graded XF45 by PCGS, belongs to the Newcomb-2 “Head of 1838” transitional variety. The obverse shows a bold LIBERTY legend on the headband, with four tiny nicks noted—between the bust and star 1, two on the neck below the ear, and one on the rim above star 8—yet overall fields remain clean and rims full. The reverse wreath and “ONE CENT” legend are sharply defined. Collectors prize the “Head of 1838” design for its early Braided Hair characteristics, making this XF45 example a standout piece in any classic copper collection.
